Product Description
These new silicone moulds from Cool Tools are specially designed to create perfect settings for faceted stones!
This mould has two different designs of square stone settings in three different sizes - 4, 6 and 8mm.
To use:
Simply press your clay into the recess of the size and shape you have chosen using your finger, a pallet knife or similar. Press the clay straight down to prevent shape distortion. No release needed!
Once the clay has been pressed into the mould, scrape any additional clay from the surface.Use a damp finger to smooth the surface of the exposed clay if needed.
If you are creating a prong setting, scrape some of the excess clay into the four elements below the settings. These can be placed on top of the setting and slightly over the stone to give the look of a prong bent over the stone.
Allow the clay to dry completely before removing it from the mould. These moulds are heat resistance up to 149°C so can be placed in a dehydrator or on a cup warmer. When removing your dry clay from the mould, flex the mould to expose the setting and pull it straight up with your fingers.
To set the stone, (make sure its fireable first!) press the stone into the setting so the girdle (pointy part) is just sticking out the bottom.
If you have created a bezel style setting it can be applied to your piece. If you have created a prong style setting you first need to add the prongs. Add paste to the top of the prong ends on the setting and position the prong caps on top so they are hanging over the stone slightly.
Smooth the excess paste and allow to dry, then assess if more paste is needed, if so add with a damp brush, smooth it and allow it to dry. To finish sand the prongs smooth, being careful of the stone! Finally attach it to your piece and fire!
