Make your own brooches, hat decorations, and pins out of silver clay!
These are very simple to use. The fine silver base is pushed into the wet clay or set on top of dry clay. Fire with the clay. Set the pin after firing.
There are different ways to trap the foot (base of the brooch) securely, here are some ideas for using it with silver clay:
- Use syringe to decorate over the foot (this works best on top of a dry clay base)
- Cut out a small shape of thin clay and use paste to secure the foot between this and the base of clay (this can be done on top of a dry or moist clay base). The shape can be applied dry which will keep a crisp look, or wet which will let it shape around the foot.
- Simply push the foot into the wet/soft clay, smudge the clay closed over the opening, and if needed, fill any gap with paste.
Don't forget to measure where to put the two bases, to make sure the brooch pin can reach across. Once the foot is in, and the piece is fired, fit the pin into the holder, and squeeze it shut using pliers.
