Ravishing Rings - a two-day masterclass with Clément Marquaire
MON-TUE 23-24 SEPTEMBER 2024, 9:30am - 5:45pm
Do you find ring making stressful? Would you love to use base metal clay but worry about complicated firing? Have you ever muttered under your breath whilst struggling with a ring join, or fired a ring only to discover that the join was still visible - gaaah! Not sure how to add texture or style to a ring band?
This brand new masterclass with Clément Marquaire is for you! Don't miss this chance to learn some of Clement’s fabulous carving and texturing techniques. You'll use his beautifully designed Ring Maker Tool to make a ring (maybe even 2 or 3 depending on your design and how fast you work).
BONUS - Book before 12 August and you will get your very own FREE Ring Maker Tool (one size) to take home! |
In this class the main focus will be on Clément’s take on a Spinner Ring, and as a bonus (depending on how fast you work) you might be able to create a couple extra rings featuring unique textures. Spinner rings are often called Fidget rings, you will end up with a very tactile moving piece of jewellery, great if you are a fidgeter and like to keep your hands busy!
Clément will share a lot of his secret texturing techniques, and you might be surprised to discover some of the fun ways of how he achieves them.
Spinner Rings can be made using several techniques, Clément has pushed it a bit further and developed his very own. The result is a ring that gives the impression of being one solid piece, but with the center part moving smoothly, in an almost perfect rotation.
Using his signature tool, The Ring Maker, you’ll be able to achieve the outstanding consistent precision on a unique ring, with ease. You’ll learn how to create an interesting contrast between the perfectly finished edges and the more organic center moving part.
This project has been designed specifically for this class with the intention of covering a lot of different aspects and techniques that can be transferred to any other metal clay projects.
Clément’s technique will remove the mystery from sizing metal clay rings (no need for ring plugs or shrinkage stoppers!). It also leaves an outstanding professional finish which will really set your work apart. You’ll learn all about the tools Clément uses to achieve his perfect finish and how to use them efficiently, saving time and energy.
Apart from the main Spinner Ring, you’ll have the choice of making a couple other rings (depending on how fast you work), again using the Ring Maker. You’ll can choose from several shapes and Clément will show you how to make four of his special textures : Wood bark, Granit, Lost Treasure and Split. You’ll learn how to use setting burrs, pliers, and almost dried clay in a way you may have never thought of before !
If you haven’t yet tried base metal clay, this class will open a whole new world to you! Clément is well known for his passion for them, especially bronze and he will share his tips and tricks regarding using it.

Who is Clément Marquaire?
Clément creates unique jewellery with designs inspired by sacred geometry and Tibetan Mandala Art. All textures and patterns you see in his work are handmade by Clément.
Clément Marquaire graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Metz, France, in 2005. He is, in his own words; “an insatiable creative, always looking for new modes of expression, eager to learn new techniques, eager to tame new subjects”.`
He first stumbled into the world of jewellery making in northern India in 2014, where he had the chance to participate in several workshops where he learnt traditional silver jewellery making techniques. Clément immediately fell in love with jewellery making with its combination of artistic creativity, rigour, and manual work.
When Clément later followed the teachings of a Lama in Nepal, and was introduced him to Sacred Geometry and the art of Tangka and Tibetan Mandala painting, he was inspired. Once back in Europe, Clément started his own jewellery line, which combined these two disciplines. He created a unique jewellery range, modern and traditional at once.
