If you'd like to add larger glass cabs (15-25mm) they will need to be secured into place with a backplate and prongs or a top plate.
Ideal for experimenting with glass and getting the perfect measurements when designing your jewellery pieces! This template contains 8 varied sized floral or circle shapes with intricate cut out shapes. Check out this Pam East class, it's full of helpful tips and tricks when working with glass and silver clay!
Fusing the glass to silver clay
- Add the glass cabochon to a backplate, use prongs to secure larger stones (15-25mm) in place.
- The glass and silver clay will fuse together between 690°C (1275°F) and 720°C (1325°F), higher temperatures may cause the glass to distort or crack.
Cutting out the shapes
To use with metal, ceramic or polymer clay:
- Place your clay on a non-stick surface.
- Roll out your clay with a roller and rolling frame (add texture if you like here).
- Place the template on top of the clay. Hold the template in place with your finger.
- Cut out your shape with your needle tool. Start with the outside edges and work your way in.
- Remove the template and lift away the excess clay.
To use with sheet metal:
- Polish your sheet with wet and dry paper or a scotchbrite pad to give the metal a soft satin finish.
- Place the template onto your sheet metal (keep close to the edges to save your metal!)
- Hold the template in place with your finger.
- Then use a scribe to draw the shape onto your metal, keeping close to the edges of the template!
- Go over your scribe with a sharpie.
- Begin sawing!
