Join this one-day class, suitable for all levels of experience, with metal clay master Joy Funnell and leave with a show stopping stunner of a ring! You'll also leave with all the knowledge on how to make a textured perfectly sized ring band, how to set differently shaped stones, and how to add interest with carving.
We're so excited to welcome Joy Funnell back to our studio (it has been a while) Joy will be teaching two classes back to back in our new bright (air-conditioned!) studio.
Joy loves colour and she loves textures. Which is pretty obvious when you see her jewellery. Joy herself is as joyful, vibrant, and colourful as her jewellery, her classes are fun and inspiring. She has been teaching for a long time, all around the world, and she knows how to help her students get the best out of the materials. Don't miss this chance to learn from one of the greats.

WHAT WILL I MAKE?
In this workshop you'll make your own unique ring, with a textured ring band and a carved ring topper filled with sparkly stones. You choose the design, colour, and shape of stones. Joy will show you how to finish your ring beautifully.
Whilst the samples and Joy's jewellery are as colourful as a bowl of M&Ms or a happy rainbow, you can of course choose to just use clear stones for all the sparkle but none of the colour. Or choose all the colours, or maybe just complimentary colours - the choice is yours. What is for sure is this will be a joyful, happy workshop!
WHAT TECHNIQUES WILL BE COVERED IN THIS CLASS?
- Creating a ring
- Correctly sizing a ring
- Adding texture and keeping the texture whilst shaping a ring band
- Two different techniques for setting round and pear shaped stones
- Carving on silver
- Finishing and polishing

- Non-stop coffee and tea and (an almost) unlimited amount of biscuits
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
- The recommended student tool list - information will be sent with your confirmation letter
- We suggest you bring a packed lunch for ease, there is access to fridge and microwave
- A notebook and pen
- We recommend bringing a magnifying glass or strong reading glasses to help you see details
- Whilst the studio is bright, having a personal task lamp is always a great idea (if you want us to charge up one of our rechargeable lamps to be waiting for you, add it to the basket and leave us a note)
- You might want to think and plan your enamel design prior to the class, draw up some sketches and think about colours. We'll be using the colours you see in the sample photo for this class.

Who is Joy Funnell?
Joy is a talented award-winning metal clay and enamel artist from Hastings, East Sussex. She is known for her colourful enamel and silver work. Joy was making jewellery for many years as a hobby before she encountered silver clay in 2005 and was hooked. Within a year she trained up to Senior Art Clay Instructor, gave up the day job and leapt into a full time career as a jewellery artisan. In 2009 she was awarded Craftsman status with the Guild of Enamellers.
She loves colour and she loves textures. Which is pretty obvious when you see her jewellery! Joy herself is as joyful, vibrant, and colourful as her jewellery, her classes are fun and inspiring. Joy is an excellent teacher, as you can see from the feedback above. She has been teaching for a long time, all around the world, and she knows how to help her students get the best out of the materials.

Her award-winning work has been featured in many magazines and publications, for instance; Metal Clay Today, Metal Clay Artist Magazine, Making Jewellery Magazine and Make Jewellery Magazine.
In 2015 Joy won the prestigious Grand Prix Award in the 14th Silver Accessories Contest in Tokyo, Japan.

BOOKINGS AND CANCELLATIONS
Full payment is required on booking.
If you need to cancel for any reason:
- less than 8 weeks, but more than 30 days before the class; if we can resell your space we will refund the course fee, less the £100 deposit.
- 30 days or less before the class: unfortunately the course fee can not be refunded, but you can transfer your space to someone else.
If you are booked on a course and you do not turn up on the day, no refund will be given. We would appreciate if you could please call and let us know if you can't attend or are going to be late on the day, out of respect for the tutor and your fellow students.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances - minimum class numbers apply. In the very unlikely event this would happen, you would be offered a full refund. We would give you as much notice as possible, but please note that we cannot be held responsible for any travel or accommodation costs. We strongly recommend you purchase a holiday insurance and check it covers the cost of class.
