Product Description
This CoolTools Clay Hydrator will make sure you never have dry clay again! Use it to keep clay moist or to rehydrate partially dried clay.
Use these colourful pots to store your metal clay whilst working, between sessions, and to make dry clay workable again.
Simply place your metal clay inside some cling film or small piece of plastic (helpful tip - use the plastic that your Art Clay comes wrapped in!) and place into the glass container on top of the bottom sponge.
As the clay is being kept in a moist environment stored like this, it will absorb moisture from the air (only as much as it needs!), keeping it a lovely consistency.
If your clay is drying out in your hands, wrap it up and pop it in the hydrator, in as little as 30 mins you will notice it's much more workable!
To use:
- Remove the lid and dampen both sponges with distilled water. Note - distilled water is free from impurities and will therefore help to prevent mould growing. Soak the bottom larger sponge more thoroughly allowing a small amount of water to rest in the bottom.
- Wrap your clay in a small piece of cling film or plastic (not too tightly!)
- Place the wrapped clay into the pot on top of the larger sponge.
- Screw the lid on tight and store for when you need it next!
If you use this with base metal clay, you may get an oxidised film on the clay. Base metal clay is best stored carefully wrapped up in clingfilm. You can then place it in this pot to extend the life span of the opened clay, but it is best used as soon as possible after opening.
Using a hydrator creates a moist environment that the clay will be in for days, weeks or months so it's not unusual for mould to grow from the organic binder. When handling the clay, do so with clean hands and only use distilled water to help prevent this. But if you do find some mould has started to form, don't worry, just mix it in with the clay and use as normal!
Note - This hydrator will not re-hydrate completely dry clay.
