"This book is a compilation of jewellery making techniques. Starting with the basics, it features simple explanations of the simplest and least expensive methods that can be used by beginners to create wonderful jewellery without expensive machinery or tools. It is only possible to understand the essence of jewellery by making it with one's own hands. I believe that is where the seeds of originality come from, not just from reading books." - Minoru Miki.
Over the years Minoru has been a Lecturer at the Yamanashi Prefectural Institute of Gemology and Jewelry Art, and Tokyo University of Arts. He is the former President of the JJDA Japan Jewelry Designers Association until 2008, the head jury member for Silver Accessories Contest and a member of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (IPG). In this book he shares his unique ways of using original metalsmithing techniques, having put them through many trials and errors. It covers the basics to Cad/Cam, and some exciting unusual ways of working with Art Clay silver clay.

The book, The Creation of Original Jewellery
This book, has everything from the basic information about precious metals, including their alloys. It also covers the techniques needed to make jewellery, including the use of hammered textures, and graining. There’s a section on how to make pattern welded (Mokume-gane in Japanese) sheets, but instead of using two types of steel/iron, it’s done with Silver and Copper , as well as how to change the colour of the finished sheet. And there’s a good section on the use of silver clay, including how to make pattern welded pieces, using silver and copper clays, as well as how to get different patterns in this technique. It doesn’t stop there, because it’s got sections on how to do, Repoussé work, soldering, Embossing, Riveting and even how to make a bench block, as well as customising a flat end chasing tool, and the list could be far longer if I tried to write about everything that the book covers. But last, and most definitely not least, the book is full of incredibly detailed photographs, from first page, and all of the way through to the last page.
